Development Engineer

About the role

Works with a variety of departments and customers to evaluate feasibility, identify manufacturing strategy, estimate costs, and create proposals for complete injection molds, production piece pricing, spare tooling, tooling refurbs, prototypes, automation, and engineering changes.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate project costs and timing for new or transfer molds, prototypes, engineering changes, and tool refurbs
• Review product designs for manufacturability and provide solutions/improvements as applicable
• Identify manufacturing strategies that optimize efficiency, quality, and profitability
• Complete and evaluate Mold Filling Simulations for cycle time estimates and manufacturing/feasibility issues
• Create preliminary layouts of tool concepts for feasibility, timing, and estimated costs
• Act as Engineering lead in customer feasibility reviews of potential projects
• Attend AQP 1 & 6 meetings
• Open quotes in IQMS
• Complete quote worksheet feasibility review
• Evaluate part drawings and specifications for customer requirements
• Work with outside tooling sources to get tooling quotes
• Work with raw material suppliers for technical recommendations and expertise on raw material selection & processing
• Review and understand applicable customer-specific requirements

Requirements

• Training and work experience in relevant areas such as AIAG Process Flow Diagram, PFMEA, and Control Plan training, or equivalent experience
• Proficiency in creating, modifying, reviewing, and approving IQMS workflow templates
• Knowledge of mathematical calculations for volumes, weights, and dimensions
• Understanding of raw material properties and suitability for product design requirements
• Understanding of tool and plastics manufacturing methods and cost drivers
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
