Development Director
About the role
Lead the fundraising strategy for our organization, building and executing annual campaigns (Giving Tuesday, peer-to-peer, direct mail, online giving) and cultivating major donor relationships alongside our Executive Director. Grow philanthropy by managing donor stewardship, appreciation programs, and a full development plan to keep supporters engaged. Oversee our brand and voice through marketing, social media, website content, storytelling, and public relations. Research, write, and manage grant applications and reporting. Direct standout fundraising and community events, from sponsorships to logistics to post-event follow-up. Represent HSSLC at networking events to build community partnerships and grow corporate sponsorships. Lead our Pet-Ed Summer Camp by overseeing planning, funding, staffing, and curriculum. Manage the Development Department with regular coaching, goal-setting, and performance support. Prepare donor updates, campaign materials, and reports for board and committee meetings.

Requirements
Excellent, nuanced oral and written communication skills are required. This role involves personally soliciting sponsorships and cultivating donor relationships, so you must read a room, tailor your message to each donor or corporate partner, and write with polish and persuasion to close gifts.
- Several years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, or development
- Demonstrated track record in donor stewardship, annual giving, and sponsorship development
- Proven ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience collaborating with executive leadership and a volunteer Board of Directors
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Comfort with donor database software (DonorPerfect a plus), CRM reporting, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, email marketing, and social media tools
- Genuine love for animals and passion for mission-driven work
- Flexibility, strong time management, and a positive attitude
- Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- Fluent English required

Pay
$65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
