Development Director

About the role

The Director of Development plays a vital role in fulfilling Hawaii Island Humane Society’s mission by leading the strategy and execution of a comprehensive strategy for fundraising and Development. Building and leading HIHS’s efforts to acquire donors and diversify revenue, the Director will also drive donor loyalty, belonging, and retention efforts while promoting a Culture of Philanthropy at HIHS.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead HIHS’s efforts to acquire donors and diversify revenue
• Drive donor loyalty, belonging, and retention efforts
• Promote a Culture of Philanthropy at HIHS
• Partner with the CEO and Board of Directors on fundraising
• Manage a portfolio of 80-100 households
• Oversee the Development Department and staff
• Serve on and partner with the Executive Leadership team

Qualifications

• Passion for animals and their welfare
• 5-7 years of fundraising experience in nonprofit organizations, preference for those with Animal Welfare experience
• 2-3 years of experience managing individuals and/or a team
• High School graduate or GED equivalent, required
• Bachelor’s degree, preferred
• Experience with major gifts and grants
• Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively as a team
• Familiarity with CRMs such as Network for Good, Raiser’s Edge, and Salesforce
• CFRE and CAWA certifications are preferred
• Ability to travel around Hawaii Island and as needed attend events on evenings and/or weekends
