Position Overview

Repair the World is seeking an experienced frontline fundraiser to serve as Development Director for our San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago communities. The position reports to the Senior Director of Development and requires a candidate located in the San Francisco Bay Area, with travel to Chicago approximately once per month.

Position Responsibilities

  • Fundraising and Revenue Generation
    • Lead all fundraising efforts for Repair the World Bay Area and Chicago, developing and executing local strategies aligned with national development priorities.
    • Own and achieve annual fundraising goals across both markets through a diversified portfolio of individual donors, foundations, federations, and corporate partners.
    • Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors and institutional partners, with a strong emphasis on individual giving as a primary growth driver.
    • Identify and develop new funding opportunities within the Bay Area and Chicago Jewish philanthropic communities, expanding Repair’s base of supporters.
    • Actively solicit gifts through one-on-one meetings, proposals, and strategic engagement opportunities, and build a robust prospect pipeline.
    • Represent Repair the World in meetings, events, and convenings with donors, foundations, and community partners across both cities.
  • Major Donor Engagement: The Solel Collective
    • Lead efforts to grow and steward local communities of $10,000+ donors, cultivating new members and strengthening a culture of major giving.
    • Serve as the primary staff partner to the Bay Area and Chicago Solel Collective chairs.
    • Over time, support the development and engagement of local Solel Collective committees to expand major giving and deepen donor relationships.
    • Design and execute high-impact engagement opportunities, including service experiences, briefings, and events that connect Solel Collective members to Repair’s mission and impact.
  • Donor Engagement and Community Presence
    • Serve as the primary relationship manager for donors in both markets, providing thoughtful stewardship, impact updates, and meaningful engagement opportunities.
    • Collaborate with local program staff to design and execute donor experiences that connect supporters to Repair’s initiatives on the ground.
    • Build strong relationships across Jewish communal institutions, philanthropic partners, and civic leaders in both cities.
  • Strategy, Planning, and Internal Partnership
    • Partner closely with the national development team to align on strategy, coordinate donor engagement, and contribute to national campaigns and initiatives.
    • Collaborate with local and national leadership on portfolio strategy, funder communications, and meeting preparation.
    • Manage an active portfolio of prospects and donors, developing strategies to move relationships toward investment.
    • Track and report on progress in Salesforce and collaborate on goal-setting and revenue tracking.
    • Support storytelling efforts in both cities to strengthen local visibility and donor engagement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience with strength in cultivating and closing gifts from individuals, foundations, federations, and Jewish and secular funders.
  • Comfort and proven track record as a frontline solicitor with demonstrated success in closing five and six-figure gifts.
  • Experience with Salesforce (or similar fundraising CRM), Donor Search (or similar tool), Google Suite, and prospect research.
  • Knowledge of and connection to Jewish communities and funders in the cities.
  • Ability to travel within the US as needed.

Compensation

Compensation at Repair the World is based on the salary band for the role and cost of living for the location. The starting salary for this full-time exempt role is $125,000 – $150,000. Benefits package includes paid time off for service in addition to vacation, sick time, personal days and holidays. Employer covers 100% of full-time employee’s health premiums (medical/dental/vision) for most plans and 50% for dependents. Additional benefits include, retirement matching, professional development funds, employer-paid short and long term disability coverage plus access to the Jewish Learning Collaborative and our Economic Access Fund. In addition, employees that have been with Repair for at least six months are eligible for 16 weeks of paid parental leave (pro-rated for employees with Repair less than six months).
