Development Construction Lead

About the role
The Construction Lead ensures all construction requirements and intelligence are integrated into the conceptual design throughout the development phase of a project. This role involves performing initial constructability reviews, creating preliminary construction work outage sequences (CWOS), and identifying site risks and mitigation strategies. The Construction Lead collaborates with management, project managers, engineering, project controls, and contractors, coordinating a wide range of functional leads and subject matter experts to meet organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Research, analyze, and understand the scope of work for transmission line and substation projects and develop a preliminary constructability assessment and execution strategy for inclusion into conceptual design.
- Develop a CWOS and identify any potential outage restrictions that may affect execution.
- Identify potential risks to execution and develop a mitigation plan to reduce or eliminate risks.
- Work with other PPL Electric Utilities functional groups such as Siting/Permitting, Right of Way, Environmental, and Transmission and Distribution Operations to incorporate construction requirements into the project.
- Actively participate in and coordinate field walk-downs, design reviews, and site access/environmental reviews.
- Provide regular project status reports to department and project leadership.
- Set priorities to ensure task completion and coordinate work activities with other team members to meet delivery dates.
- May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role, requiring after-hours work to restore power or respond to customer service issues during emergencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.
This position may be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both, with potential changes to the assigned work location. Physical presence in the office or on-site may be required for face-to-face interaction and coordination.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree with 4 years of relevant work experience; OR Master’s Degree with 2 years of relevant work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Experience with outage planning, construction planning, and electric utilities equipment and processes.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
- Valid PA Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project Management or Certified Construction Management Certificate (e.g., from PMI or CMAA).
- Strong written, oral, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with Office, CAD, and/or drawing markup software.
- Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills.
- Working knowledge of critical-path-method scheduling tools and project budgets.
