Developer Relations Evangelist
About the role
We’re hiring a Developer Relations Evangelist with a focus on community to be the connective tissue between AssemblyAI and the developer ecosystem building with voice AI. You’ll maintain a strong presence in SF while also being on the road — sponsoring meetups, live demoing the API constantly, and proselytizing the product directly to developers in the field.
What You’ll Do
-
Own the AssemblyAI developer community
- Build, grow, and nurture our developer community across Reddit, social channels, and in-person touchpoints
- Be the proactive face of AssemblyAI in conversations across X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Discord, Hacker News, and other surfaces where voice AI builders gather
- Monitor competitor and category mentions, jump into relevant conversations, and surface insights back to product and marketing
- Develop programs that turn developers into long-term advocates—ambassador programs, beta cohorts, recognition for great builds
-
Drive a creator and influencer engine
- Co-create demos, tutorials, and short-form videos with creators and partners, with a particular focus on our Voice Agent API
- Run hands-on builds yourself: ship demos, sample apps, and viral technical content that show what’s possible with AssemblyAI
- Surface potential influencers to the growth team — and partner with technical content creators (YouTube, X, TikTok, newsletters) who can showcase how easy it is to build with our APIs
-
Live demo our realtime APIs in the field
- Be on the road 40%+ of the time at meetups, hackathons, partner events, and developer gatherings — live demoing our realtime APIs in front of builders
- Treat every event as a chance to show, not tell: get our models in front of developers’ eyes and ears so they can hear the quality of our transcription and voice agents firsthand
- Build a rolling library of demo scenarios, sample apps, and “wow moments” you can pull off-the-shelf at any event with minimal setup
-
Power developer community events (in person)
- Serve as boots-on-the-ground execution support for AssemblyAI’s SF developer event motion — meetups, hackathons, third-party event sponsorships, etc
- Represent AssemblyAI at other meetups and developer events across the US — meeting builders, identifying partners, and bringing back intel
- Help conceive and execute high-leverage community moments (e.g., vibe coding voice agent hackathons, partner collabs, launch-week activations)
-
Contribute to launches and campaigns
- Partner with product marketing to amplify launches with creator content, community activations, and developer-first storytelling
- Generate community signal that informs positioning, messaging, and roadmap decisions
- Build relationships with adjacent ecosystem partners (LLM providers, voice frameworks, AI dev tool companies) to unlock co-marketing and collab content
What You’ll Need
-
A genuinely technical foundation — you can build a working demo with an API, debug a snippet on stage, and have credible conversations with engineers and AI builders. Prior hands-on engineering experience is a plus.
-
A demonstrated track record of growing a developer community or creator network: real numbers, real programs, real outputs you can point to.
-
Strong content instincts — you can write a tutorial, edit a demo video, post a thread that lands, and tell when a piece of content will actually move the needle vs. die quietly.
-
Comfort and enthusiasm being in front of people — speaking at meetups, hosting events, going to other people’s events, live demoing in front of a room, building relationships in real life. You’re energized by being on the road, not drained by it.
-
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and excited to be a regular presence in our SF office, at events across the city, and traveling to where developers are.
-
Genuine excitement about voice AI, AI agents, and the surge of vibe coders and AI-native builders shipping products today.
Bonus Points
- Existing relationships in the SF AI builder, vibe coder, or voice AI ecosystem.
- Prior experience running hackathons, developer conferences, or large-scale community programs.
- A personal presence (technical YouTube, X, newsletter, GitHub) that shows you already build in public.
- Experience working closely with founders and small, fast-moving marketing teams.
