Developer Relations
About the Role
Inception is pioneering the world’s fastest and most efficient AI models, including the Mercury model—the first commercially available diffusion LLM, delivering 5x greater speed and efficiency than today’s LLMs with best-in-class quality. As the public technical voice for the Mercury family of models, you will lead the developer conversation around diffusion for language, a new paradigm in AI. You’ll ship runnable code, publish honest benchmarks, build integrations developers adopt, and shape how the world understands diffusion LLMs. This role spans technical content, public presence, and go-to-market (GTM) work, partnering directly with founders and researchers who invented the technology.
Responsibilities
- Technical content and demos:
- Ship a runnable technical artifact every ~2 days: demos, benchmarks, tutorials, integrations, or technical blog posts.
- Author 2-3 high-quality technical blog posts per month, ideally more.
- Build public demos showcasing Mercury’s speed and capabilities on realistic workloads (voice, agents, search/RAG, coding).
- Publish reproducible benchmarks with the Eval team; own responses when public benchmarks are contested.
- Contribute to developer-facing product surfaces: playground, docs, integration guides, and code samples.
- Partner with the Head of Marketing on content strategy as a co-author, shaping priorities and editorial calendars.
- Public voice — social and community:
- Own Inception’s developer-facing social presence (X, LinkedIn, Reddit, GitHub, Hacker News, Discord).
- Proactively engage in technical communities, participate in conversations, share work, and spot trends.
- Respond to technical questions, mentions, and debates in real time.
- Represent Inception at conferences (GTC, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR) and industry meetups.
- Build relationships with technical creators, DevRel peers at partner companies, and independent AI voices.
- GTM technical work:
- Partner with Marketing on technical compete pages: architecture arguments, benchmarks, and reproducible comparisons.
- Produce technical sales enablement: customer-facing benchmark deep-dives, POC support materials, and case studies.
- Support sales in customer conversations where a technical voice influences deals.
- Collaborate with Product/Engineering on developer feedback, docs improvements, and API/product roadmap input.
Requirements
- Deep technical background: Published or shipped substantial AI/ML work (e.g., widely-read blogs, open-source projects, research papers, or demos developers cite).
- PhD, prior DevRel experience at a leading AI/ML company, or equivalent production engineering experience.
- You ship runnable code—your writing is anchored to working demos, not just prose.
- You have a public voice: a personal audience, following, or body of work demonstrating credibility in the AI community.
- You live in developer communities (X, Discord, Hacker News, GitHub, technical subreddits) and have opinions on effective DevRel practices.
- You understand the AI infrastructure landscape: inference optimization, model architectures, benchmark methodology, and autoregressive vs. non-autoregressive approaches.
- You engage with rigor: handle critical feedback, concede limitations, and correct misinformation with facts.
- You teach without condescension: write for beginners and researchers alike, sometimes in the same piece.
- You’re comfortable with breadth: this role spans technical content, public presence, and GTM work, partnering with Marketing, Sales, Product, and Engineering.
- Operator instinct: thrive in startup environments with ambiguity, ship rough drafts, and iterate publicly.
Pay
The annual base salary range for this role is $175,000 – $300,000 USD. Final compensation is determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications. Equity and benefits are included in the total package.
