About the role
The Module Detention Specialist is responsible for monitoring and allowing movement of employees/visitors/inmates in inmate housing units in the detention facility. The Detention Specialist also performs a variety of clerical and data entry tasks maintaining the safety and security of the facility, collecting criminal and/or civil justice records at the Jail for the Sheriff's Office.
Responsibilities
- Maintain safety and security of the facility
- Monitor inmate and deputy movement in housing areas
- Work closely with deputy staff to manage work areas
- Perform clerical and data entry tasks
- Document inmate interactions and incidents in worksheets and incident reports
- Restock housing unit supplies
- Manage housing area control panels and workstations
- Check in and escort visitors throughout the facility
- Facilitate the release of information or inmate property to family and legal counsel
- Acquire and maintain Colorado Notary in first 3 months of employment
- Communicate clearly via telephone and radio
Requirements
- Available to be assigned to any shift to cover a 7-day week, 24 hours, 365 days of the year work schedule (including nights, weekends, and holidays)
- Flexible in response to Jail Staffing needs
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and shift work
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Must possess strong communication skills
- Must have a working knowledge of correct English grammar and spelling
- Must be able to deal with information of a confidential and/or unpleasant nature
- Must be able to learn quickly and retain knowledge of varied and sometimes complex procedures
- Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and shift work
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficient in clerical/computer entry
Skills
- Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to perform varied clerical tasks sometimes under pressure of time and heavy workload
- Working knowledge of correct English grammar and spelling
- Ability to deal with information of a confidential and/or unpleasant nature
- Ability to learn quickly and retain knowledge of varied and sometimes complex procedures
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and shift work

Pay
Salary: $60,840.00 - $87,516.00 Annually
Schedule
Shifts are 12 hours per day with (1) 10-hour shift per week but must be flexible in response to Jail Staffing needs.
