About the role
The Master Control Detention Specialist supervises employee, visitor, and inmate movement throughout the facility. They direct radio communications both internally and externally for the jail facility and maintain and collect daily records pertinent to their position.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and direct radio communications for the facility and transport team
- Ensure authorized staff and inmate movement in and out of the facility
- Assist with public contacts and communication
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Escort visitors throughout the facility
- Perform varied clerical tasks sometimes under pressure of time and heavy workload
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public
- Follow written and oral instructions
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned
Requirements
- Available to be assigned to any shift to cover a 7-day week, 24 hours, 365 days of the year work schedule (including nights, weekends, and holidays)
- Flexible in response to Jail Staffing needs
- May be required to work special hours on short notice
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficient in clerical/computer entry
Skills
- Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to perform varied clerical tasks sometimes under pressure of time and heavy workload
- Working knowledge of correct English grammar and spelling
- Ability to deal with information of a confidential and/or unpleasant nature
- Ability to learn quickly and retain knowledge of varied and sometimes complex procedures
