Detention Screener Internship

About the role

The Fall 2026 Internship Program at ACTS is seeking compassionate and driven individuals to make a lasting impact through meaningful work.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and document a face-to-face interview with the referred youth including required information
  • Accurately score and complete the Detention Risk Assessment Instrument, Suicide Risk Assessment Instrument, and Positive Achievement Change Tool (PACT)
  • Initiate an immediate referral for further evaluation when necessary
  • Conduct and document an interview containing required information with the parent/guardian
  • Conduct and document an interview with the victim/complainant, arresting law enforcement officer, Juvenile Probation Officer (JPO) and collateral sources such as school officials, employers, prior service providers and gang unit officer, as appropriate
  • Make referrals to community resources, including social, legal and educational providers
  • Attend scheduled interdisciplinary treatment team meeting or clinical supervisory sessions and discuss aspects of client's care and progress (or lack of same)
  • Participate in other meetings/events as assigned
  • Report crisis situations and treatment needs of clients to clinical personnel and supervisor
  • Recognize client's comprehensive needs and discuss with interdisciplinary treatment team

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program in social work, counseling, psychology or other human services field and working under a formal learning contract or similar agreement with a university
  • Eligibility status, as determined by Level 2 background screening in accordance with Florida Statutes, Chapter 435 and/or Local Law
