Detention Deputy

Essential Job Functions

• Conduct a head count, ensuring visual confirmation of inmate presence.
• Note all activities, emergencies, inmate movements, video visitation, recreation, programs, and incident reports in the JMS.
• Visually monitor special needs inmates at least every fifteen minutes and record their activity in the JMS.
• Supervise the distribution of inmate meals and ensure tray, utensil, and cup/milk carton accountability.
• Ensure proper recreation of inmates according to policy and procedures.
• Escort and standby with medical personnel during medication distribution and emergency situations.
• Control and use security keys or equipment appropriately.
• Keep the housing unit clean.
• Issue razors to inmates at designated times and conduct random searches for contraband, weapons, and prohibited items.
• Pat down and/or search inmates entering or leaving the housing unit.
• Be proficient in using the radio, telephone, intercom system, and emergency alarm system.

Qualifications

• A. Training and Experience:
• Must be an FDLE certified Corrections Officer.
• Valid Florida Driver License required.
• B. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
• Knowledge of Agency Detention Directives and detention practices.
• First aid and CPR knowledge.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Quick and calm reaction in emergencies.
• Teamwork and ability to prepare and present clear, accurate, concise, and objective reports.
• Enforcement of laws with control, tact, impartiality, and courtesy.

Essential Physical Skills

• Maintain above average physical condition.
• Physically control an inmate.
• 20/20 vision (corrected).
• Ability to crawl ten yards.
• Ability to drag, lift, or carry 150 pounds.
• Ability to run 100 yards unassisted.
• Ability to deal with and fend off verbal assaults.
• Ability to walk unassisted.
• Hearing: normal language level (assisted/unassisted).
• Manual dexterity.
• Normal color perception.

Pay

Starting Salary: $60,822.00
