Desk Clerk (Shores Landing)
About the role
MidPen Housing has been developing and managing affordable housing across Northern California since 1970. Their portfolio spans more than 142 properties and serves over 22,000 residents, including working families, seniors, and people with special needs. Shores Landing is one of those communities, and the Desk Clerk position is the operational heartbeat of its front office.
Under the Community Manager, you'll monitor all traffic in and out of the building, maintain the visitor and daily logs, answer phones, and direct residents, guests, and applicants appropriately. You'll complete work orders, write incident reports, post and distribute resident notices, and monitor the video camera system. Keeping the lobby and entrance area orderly is part of the job, and so is enforcing community policies and house rules with consistency and professionalism. Fair Housing compliance applies to every interaction.

Career Growth
This role builds fluency in property management, teaching you to document accurately under pressure, communicate across a wide range of residents and situations, and maintain professionalism where stakes for residents are real. Desk Clerk experience at an affordable housing property is a credible stepping stone toward leasing coordinator, assistant manager, or compliance roles, particularly within mission-driven organizations where understanding resident services and community operations matters as much as technical skills.
Candidates who thrive here tend to stay calm when the front desk gets busy, take logging seriously rather than treating it as busywork, and understand that consistency in enforcement protects residents as much as it protects the property.
