DESIGNER SKILLBRIDGE INTERN

About the Role
Newport News Shipbuilding offers summer internships that provide students with experience in technical or administrative positions and the possibility of future full‑time employment. Some engineering, technical, and waterfront positions may require physical access to a variety of work sites, including ships under construction or overhaul, and may involve the use of vertical and inclined ladders, limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age before the start of the summer intern program (mid‑May).
- Be enrolled in a degreed program that supports the company’s business requirements, typically in one of the following areas:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Civil/Structural Engineering
- Business Management
- Accounting
- Economics/Finance
- Have attended a college or university and completed at least one year of coursework by May 4.
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (official transcripts required).
- Plan to attend a college/university (undergraduate or graduate) in the fall following the internship.
- Successfully complete a criminal background investigation and a hair‑follicle drug screen.
- Work a 40‑hour work week for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer.
- Provide an adequate email address for application, communication, and employment offers.
- When applying, supply the following information (failure to do so may result in disqualification):
- School name
- Degree program & major
- Anticipated graduation date
- Current academic level (e.g., junior, senior, graduate)
- Overall GPA (4.0 scale)
- List of relatives (if any) employed at Newport News Shipbuilding
