Designer Senior

Proficient in performing daily work activities with minimal supervision, including computer-aided drafting to prepare and maintain maps, sketches, schematics, and other engineering-related drawings. Perform higher-level design tasks with direct to moderate supervision, such as preparation of study layouts, design development, cost estimating, peer review of deliverables, and checking drawings.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate daily work routines to maintain efficient production.
• Create, revise, and maintain detailed engineering and record drawings and sketches.
• Create, revise, and maintain material and property equipment records.
• Obtain information required to perform work from verbal communication, sketches, marked drawings, listings, field notes, vendors' catalogs, technical reference manuals, and site visits.
• Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish assigned work.
• Use computer-aided design software and Microsoft Office software proficiently.
• Check work performed by other personnel for accuracy and compliance with all company standards and methods.
• Work with other company organizations to coordinate work and ensure it is performed safely and efficiently.
• Read vendors' prints, shop drawings, and equipment operating instructions, and incorporate that information into assigned work.
• Prepare study layouts, designs, and original working drawings in accordance with AEP standard practice.
• Check designs for strength or conformity to accepted standards and methods.
• Check manufacturers' prints, shop drawings, and other drawings necessary to coordinate work with others and with the overall design.
• Prepare and check bills of material when required.
• Specify and write purchase requisitions when required.
• Make cost estimates when required.
• Furnish work direction and assist in training employees in related work at an equal or lower level as directed.
• Assist employees of higher classification as required.
• Promote and support the company's Accident Prevention, Safety, and Health programs.
• Demonstrate ethical behavior as outlined in AEP corporate policies.
• Support AEP Corporate Compliance policies.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer-aided design (CAD) or in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology and 4 years of equivalent experience.
• High school graduate and 8 years of experience in electric utility and/or related industrial drafting and/or computer-aided drafting work (equivalent experience without AAS degree).
• Proficiency in working with conventional drafting symbols and methods, and ability to distinguish colors.
• Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.
• This position may require shift work or overtime.
• Occasional overnight travel to and work within a substation or power plant environment, adhering to all safety regulations and using personal protection equipment.

Qualifications

Physical demand level is Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.

Location

This role is on-site in Gahanna, Ohio or Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Pay

Compensation range: $63,496 - $79,369 (Designer Senior SG5, Compensation Grade: SP20-005, Hourly Range: $30.53 - $38.16).
