Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain 3D piping models using CADWorx Plant (2020 or later versions).
- Create 3D equipment models utilizing CADWorx Equipment (2020 or later versions).
- Generate piping isometrics from 3D models using CADWorx Isogen.
- Produce equipment and piping layout designs based on Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Coordinate with engineering and design disciplines to ensure proper model integration, spatial coordination, and design accuracy.
- Participate in 3D model coordination activities, including clash detection, model input management, and interface resolution.
- Coordinate with stress and pipe support engineers, construction teams, and vendors during the development of piping designs to ensure proper model integration and space management.
- Assist Discipline Engineers in the review of vendor equipment drawings to verify compliance with design intent and project specifications.
- Support project teams in maintaining accurate models and drawing documentation in accordance with company and client standards.
- Prepare drawings, layouts and conceptual sketches to support construction activities, change orders, and project cost estimates.
- Compile and maintain project documentation, including status reports, punch lists, progress sketches, and material quantity calculations, and communicate updates to the Piping Lead.
- Prepare orthographic drawings derived from 3D models in accordance with applicable industry and company drafting standards.
- Develop plans, sections, details and isometric drawings ensuring adequate views and detail are provided to clearly communicate fabrication and construction requirements.
- Utilize and manage external reference (XREF) drawing files to maintain coordination and consistency across project drawings.
- Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) from 3D models and support the process engineering team in compiling process-related deliverables.
- Produce 2D detailed drawings and maintain familiarity with drafting standards to prepare drawing packages for Issued for Approval (IFA), Issued for Bid (IFB), Issued for Construction (IFC), and As-Built deliverables in accordance with company standards and procedures.
- Apply established quality control procedures and checklists, demonstrating accountability and ownership for the accuracy and completeness of deliverables.
- Support design reviews, model reviews, and client meetings by preparing and revising piping-related project deliverables to reflect approved design changes.
- Maintain revision control and ensure all updates are accurately captured and issued as construction-ready documentation.
- Research, review, and apply company drafting standards, client requirements, and applicable regulatory codes to all piping drawings.
- Perform independent QA/QC reviews of piping design and deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance.
- Verify that site-development drawings align with overall piping design intent and layout requirements.
- Support Professional Engineers during the design phase, including standards review, gathering calculation inputs, and providing drafting-related technical support.
- Coordinate piping drafting requirements with multi-discipline project teams to ensure seamless integration of design elements.
- Review drawings from other disciplines to confirm proper coordination and consistency with piping systems.
- Review and respond to Request for Information (RFIs) to maintain drawing accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review third-party vendor drawings to ensure compatibility and proper integration with the intended piping design.
Requirements
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in piping systems design.
- All qualified candidates will be required to complete an in-person, computer-based assessment.
Skills
- Minimum of five (5) years of current experience with AutoCAD, CADWorx, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office.
- Detailed knowledge in the application of Codes and current Standards, including but not limited to:
- ASME B31.3
- ASME B31.4
- ASME B31.8
- Ability to independently research and interpret equipment data, vendor documentation, and technical references.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with designers, engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to react promptly and efficiently to shifts in priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
