About the role
The Designer Lead/Design Document Management role at Lubrizol is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings and plans for engineering projects. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles, excellent drafting skills, and collaboration with engineers and other team members. As a designer/drafter lead, this role will take greater autonomy, have broader responsibilities in decision-making and leadership within design scope. Role will require capability to design in more complex or higher value projects and take a leading role for design coordination.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings using CAD software based on specifications and calculations provided by engineers.
- Create assembly instructions, bills of materials (BOM) for design solutions.
- Develop and prepare engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets, and other data.
- Prepare and review engineering documentation, including blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
- Maintain and update drawing files/records/databases.
- Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, relevant codes, regulations, and company policies.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to gather data and verify accuracy of drawings.
- Review and revise designs and drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
- Identify and resolve design issues throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist in troubleshooting technical problems and provide solutions as needed.
- Work with 2nd and 3rd parties to coordinate CAD work and document management systems.
Requirements
- Relevant qualifications; Diploma, (Bachelors degree or equivalent preferred) in Drafting, Design or relevant Engineering Discipline (Mechanical / Chemical / Civil / EE).
- Minimum 5-10 years’ experience working in drafting and engineering design in industrial contexts, project design and delivery through to construction. Preference for experience in chemical processing and facilities.
- Experience working within cross functional project teams on multiple projects, with greater responsibility technically and/or in higher value projects.
- Experience with SAP, Microsoft Office, and design/drafting software programs (AutoDesk suite; AutoCad, Revit, BIM) and documentation management.
