Designer III
About the role
Amentum is seeking a CAD Designer to support our Aiken, SC office. The Designer will develop engineering drawings of moderate complexity, applying a solid understanding of their specific discipline.
Responsibilities
- Develops engineering drawings of moderate complexity under general supervision.
- Applies a solid level of understanding within a specific discipline.
- Familiar with codes, permits, and software applications related to the discipline.
- Understands the process of preparing designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures.
- Basic understanding of the engineer's process of performing and verifying design calculations to support the overall project design.
- Reviews supplier documents for accuracy.
- Collects data on manpower, man-hour, and labor costs requirements for design staff to aid in evaluating the budget.
- Performs material take-offs for the discipline.
- Provides support for the customer's engineering deliverables.
- Coordinates work with that of others in the discipline group and other discipline groups on the project.
- Prepares complete information on design details, bills of materials, etc., for distribution to other design or drafting personnel for completion.
- Ensures quality, quantity, and completeness of the assigned design tasks.
- Keeps proper files and records related to assigned design activities.
- Continually upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities and pursues additional coursework and training.
- Supports the customer's engineering deliverables.
- Provides technical guidance and assistance to other design and draft personnel and is responsible for the neatness and accuracy of work.
- Performs all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements
- Education: Associate's degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 6+ years of experience.
- Capability with 2D and/or 3D plant design is strongly recommended.
- Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.
Qualifications
- Passes and maintains a Security Clearance.
- May require travel.
Skills
- Intermediate knowledge of the discipline's materials costs.
- Concept of cost analysis and forecasting.
- Knowledge of cost estimating methods.
