About the role

Successful candidate will work with a team of engineers supporting process engineering and design tasks for assigned projects.

Responsibilities

  • Complete piping design and basic equipment layout efforts in accordance with industry practices using 2D CAD and 3D E3D software and/or other 3D design software.
  • Model and design from complex equipment via vendor drawings.
  • Mark up vendor documents and participate in the vendor document review process.
  • Understand pipe supports and piping design constructability.
  • Understand basic structural design.
  • Initiate conceptual physical design requirements in coordination with supervisors and engineers.
  • Create and maintain designer notes, including recognizing required content that affects project execution.
  • Prepare design sketches for use by drafting personnel.
  • Prepare documents and packages with all required references for checking.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or associate’s degree with drafting courses.
  • 5+ years of experience and knowledge in design requirements for the Energy & Chemical industry.
  • 3D modeling experience.
  • Strong piping design skills in accordance with industry standards and codes.
  • Ability to self-manage execution workflow and quality process for small-cap projects.
  • Basic ability to recognize project change and understand change management procedures, with the ability to convey to project leads.
  • Basic knowledge of pipe spec development and workflow, including understanding of conditioning requirements, piping participation, and knowledge of requirements to add components in 3D software.
  • Advanced layout design on a broader selection of equipment.
  • Advanced operational and maintenance requirements for instrumentation and equipment, including understanding differences in technologies and operability.
  • Ability to consult others as qualified experts and make key technical decisions on a project.
  • Advanced understanding of overall project execution and multi-discipline project workflow, especially interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Advanced knowledge of FEL/FEED staged process, including differences in execution between early FEL/FEED and detailed design.
  • Strong communication skills for effective inter-discipline, client, vendor, and construction coordination, including clear written communication for execution planning.
  • Willingness to learn and work on a variety of tasks within multiple industries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Certificate in drafting/design.
  • Commitment to quality, responsibility, high work standards, and initiative.
  • Understanding of the company’s culture and philosophies, including business objectives and goals.
  • Ability to direct and control the complete operation of a project within established policies.
  • Appropriate use of confidential information.

  • Ability to clearly communicate information and ideas verbally and in writing.

Pay

Expected salary range for this Illinois position is between $94,900.00 and $133,640.00 annually. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law.

Physical Demands

  • Required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, video chat, and software systems.
  • Visits to maintenance sites and industrial facilities requiring mobility (on ground and at heights) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and work boots.

Work Environment

  • Work in multiple environments including an office, warehouse, and on-site trailers or buildings.
  • On work sites, noise levels will be moderate to high.
  • Job site may contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, tools, and people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking.
  • Exposure to bells, whistles, and alarms.
