About the role

The Designer II supports Building Enclosure projects by developing accurate Revit models, drawings, details, layouts, and contract documents in accordance with SSR standards and client requirements. Working with the Designer of Record and Project Manager, this role helps coordinate design information, identify issues, support field observations, and maintain organized project deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Help turn project requirements into coordinated, accurate design and construction documents.
  • Convert drawings and direction from the Designer of Record and Project Manager into Revit models, drawings, and details for the Building Enclosure design and production team.
  • Prepare accurate, neat, and efficient electronic drawings and support project layouts, sizing, design concepts, and building enclosure system selections.
  • Implement project design requirements and promptly communicate design questions or issues to the Designer of Record and Project Manager.
  • Coordinate construction documents with owners, architects, MEP disciplines, structural engineers, Revit modelers, drafters, vendors, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Review construction documents for coordination, sequencing, material compatibility, and potential scope gaps.
  • Plan assigned work within communicated man-hour budgets and participate in client and internal project update meetings.
  • Collect project site data, perform field verification, and assist with on-site observations during construction under appropriate direction.
  • Organize drawing packages and maintain project design and construction files.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, Project Manuals, and specifications; record changes and keep affected disciplines informed of details and schedules.
  • Stay current with code requirements, design software, and industry trends while assisting with team member training and mentoring.
  • Use a computer for extended periods and periodically navigate job sites, climb ladders, and transport ladders or plans weighing up to 30 pounds, with reasonable accommodations as applicable; minimal overnight travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Two-year technical degree in an applicable discipline plus three years applicable experience OR five years applicable experience.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting plans from other disciplines (i.e., architectural, structural, civil, plumbing, electrical, mechanical).

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of Revit and experience producing construction drawings.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks, BlueBeam, and discipline-specific engineering software such as TRACE, HASS, and SKM.
  • Knowledge of construction terminology, building design specifications, basic math, and applicable engineering theories and disciplines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal, written communication, comprehension, detail orientation, judgment, and decision-making skills.
