About the Role

As a Designer I in LJA’s Griffin, Georgia office, you will develop technical drawings and design documents for civil engineering projects. This role involves translating engineering concepts into accurate plans for permitting and construction, coordinating revisions, and maintaining drafting standards. Projects may include roadway improvements, utility systems, drainage infrastructure, commercial and residential developments, and public works initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Create and modify AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings, including terrain models, alignments, storm and sewer profiles, and other design elements for sewer, water, roadway, drainage, and site development projects
• Produce and understand construction documents for municipal, transportation, utility, land development, and other projects
• Prepare site, utility, grading, drainage, stormwater, and erosion control plans, including plan and profile sheets, exhibits, and supporting CAD files
• Support public works projects for municipalities and counties
• Assist with DOT-related projects and cost-to-cure exhibits
• Produce CAD deliverables for commercial developments, industrial parks, residential acre-lot developments, and other private site development projects
• Complete redline markups, incorporate review comments, and ensure construction documents meet quality standards and project requirements
• Work from sketches, verbal direction, and engineering markups to prepare accurate and detailed drafting deliverables
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project teams while maintaining current knowledge of drafting standards, design procedures, and industry best practices
• Support production of stormwater conveyance systems, including assisting with hydraulic studies
• Perform other duties as assigned to support project and client needs

Requirements

• Minimum of high school or technical school training with courses in computer-aided drafting or equivalent experience
• Associate of Applied Science in Computer-Aided Design (preferred)
• 3+ years of experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Technical knowledge of CAD operations and engineering specialty disciplines
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with coworkers
• Adaptability to changes in work assignments as project needs evolve
