Designer I

Support the Naval Power Systems business, a trusted provider of innovative naval gas and hybrid power systems, control technology, and support solutions for the U.S. Navy and navies worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Create moderately complex mechanical, electrical, or electronic designs for new product parts, subassemblies, assemblies, or systems configurations using CAD or manual systems; compile Bills of Materials; assist in prototype assembly.
• Draw multiple views, depict component relationships, identify dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances, and materials; prepare bills of material and specifications.
• Create documentation and process Engineering Change Orders while ensuring adherence to designated quality and cost parameters using CAD systems.
• Ensure quality of drawings and functionality of equipment by:
  • Assisting in building/acquiring prototypes and testing/analyzing results.
  • Performing calculations for strength of materials, weights, simple forces, and stresses using charts and tables.
  • Analyzing the effect of proposed changes for proper fit or interference problems and recommending solutions or alternate construction.
  • Modifying drawings as required and conferring with engineers to resolve issues.
  • Adhering to company policies and procedures.
• Provide assistance to lesser experienced drafters by communicating work priorities, offering technical assistance, and verifying accuracy of work.
• Maintain CAD equipment by following manufacturer’s instructions, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs as needed.
• Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and supportive manner.
• Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
• Maintain technical knowledge by:
  • Conferring with technical specialists and suppliers.
  • Attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.
  • Establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree or equivalent and 4+ years of experience in engineering and design or a related field.
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within engineering and design.
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $72,654–$103,895 per year. This range reflects the good-faith estimate of pay at the time of posting and may vary based on factors such as federal contract labor categories, geographic location, business considerations, scope and responsibilities of the position, local market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors influencing pay include the candidate’s qualifications, such as prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, training, and certifications.
