Job Title: Design Drafter II / IIIJob Description The Design Drafter II / III uses advanced Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools, technical drawing standards, and visualization techniques to create accurate 2D and 3D technical drawings and models that support the design, fabrication, assembly, construction, and documentation of complex project components and systems. This role transforms engineering concepts into clear, detailed, and standards-compliant deliverables that enable reliable manufacturing and construction outcomes. Responsibilities Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, redline markups, calculations, and other design inputs to translate design concepts into detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings and models.Apply CAD software tools, drafting principles, and industry best practices to create precise representations of mechanical and electrical components and systems.Ensure that all drawings and models clearly convey the information required for manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, or construction, including accurate dimensions, material specifications, GD&T, annotations, and section views.Create, revise, and manage technical drawings and models for larger and complex components, assemblies, and systems using 2D and 3D CAD software.Review created or modified drawings and models for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with company, project, and applicable industry standards (such as Y14 series, AIA, or client-specific standards) prior to submission or release.Support the development and maintenance of drawing standards and templates to ensure consistency and quality across projects.Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to clarify design intent, resolve issues, and incorporate feedback into drawings and models.Utilize Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, where applicable, to manage drawing control, revision history, and configuration of design data.Produce detailed technical documentation that supports quality management systems and project requirements, including updates based on redlines and design changes.Contribute drafting expertise to specialized areas such as P&IDs, electrical schematics, complex mechanical assemblies, or structural steel details, as required by project needs. Essential Skills Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in design drafting using CAD and 3D modeling software.Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software, with strong hands-on experience in SolidWorks.Demonstrated ability to create, revise, and manage technical drawings and models for large components and assemblies.Strong knowledge of drafting principles and industry standards, including Y14 series standards or relevant company/client-specific standards.Ability to produce accurate technical drawings and 3D models for large components, including the effective use of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).Experience in mechanical and electrical drafting, including clear documentation of components and systems.Ability to interpret engineering inputs such as sketches, specifications, redline markups, and calculations and convert them into precise CAD models and drawings.Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, completeness, and standards compliance in all drawing deliverables. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with naval or industrial power plant projects.Advanced proficiency in one or more additional CAD or modeling tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, or Inventor.Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM), including BIM workflows, family creation, and managing BIM data, particularly for roles involving Revit.Experience with SolidWorks PDM or other Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for drawing control and revision management.Familiarity with requirements management tools and quality management tools such as TipQA.Knowledge of and/or experience with quality management systems such as ISO 9001.Experience with 3D modeling of complex parts and large assemblies, including parametric modeling and model management.Specific drafting experience in one or more specialized areas, such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, complex mechanical assemblies, or detailed structural steel drafting.Well-versed in both mechanical and electrical drafting practices, enabling effective collaboration across multidisciplinary projects. Work Environment This position is based on site, working in a professional engineering and design environment that focuses on the development of complex technical systems. You will work primarily with CAD and modeling software such as SolidWorks and may also use tools like AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, PDM/PLM systems, and quality or requirements management platforms. The role involves close collaboration with engineers, designers, and project teams in an office or design-lab setting that supports detailed technical work, reviews, and cross-functional communication. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orlando, FL. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $48.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
