About the role

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Pharr District is seeking an experienced Transportation Engineer Specialist III or IV to join our Central Design office in Pharr, TX. This position involves performing advanced and specialized drafting, calculations, and design work, overseeing multiple design and construction projects, and serving as a lead worker.

Responsibilities

  • Receives project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans, and coordinates scheduling to accommodate ongoing projects.
  • Performs advanced and specialized design work, drafting, and calculations in support of design activities.
  • Develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.
  • Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies, and right-of-way maps.
  • Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
  • Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting, and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
  • Trains less experienced technicians.
  • Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal lighting design, retaining walls, and building design.
  • Uses automated programs, interactive graphics, and the Design and Construction Information System.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Grad or Equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Transportation Engineer Specialist III: 8 years drafting, design, plan preparation.
    • Transportation Engineer Specialist IV: 9 years drafting, design, plan preparation.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid US driver's license required.

Qualifications

  • Advanced and specialized design/drafting procedures.

  • Applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities.
  • Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints, and maps.

Pay

  • Transportation Engineer Specialist III: $66,000 - $81,351/annually $5,500 - $6,779.25/monthly.
  • Transportation Engineer Specialist IV: $69,600 - $87,046/annually $5,800 - $7,253.83/monthly.
