Design Technician I

About the role
In this role, you will support utility design projects by learning to read and interpret technical documents related to gas operations and updating utility data systems to reflect provided documentation. You will work closely with senior technicians, engineers, managers, and project teams, participating in peer reviews and quality control checks, identifying data discrepancies, coordinating construction activities, and ensuring all work complies with company safety policies, design standards, and governing authority regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assist with GPS surveys, overhead and underground line locating, inspections, testing, and documentation of power distribution, gas distribution, telecom facilities, rights-of-way, and related infrastructure.
- Complete design-related tasks such as drafting, basic calculations, easement validation, cost estimating, and permit package development.
- Manage multiple assignments to meet productivity, quality, schedule, and budget expectations.
- Participate in peer reviews and quality control checks.
- Identify data discrepancies and coordinate construction activities.
Requirements
- Entry-level position with a strong desire to learn and work in a technical field.
- Prior experience in construction, utility, or pipeline environments is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) or GIS design tools is a plus.
- Working knowledge of basic software programs such as Microsoft Office and ArcGIS.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work effectively in a production-driven environment.

These benefits are subject to employee contribution amounts generally set annually. Full-time employees are eligible to earn PTO hours. May be eligible for discretionary bonus as determined by the company.
Pay
This position pays between $21 and $24 hourly and is a non-exempt position.
