Design Manager – Senior
About the role
The role of Senior Design Manager at Gensler involves managing all phases of projects, ensuring client satisfaction, quality control, and financial performance. Key responsibilities include deploying resources to ensure smooth project flow, acting as the primary liaison between the team and client, and leveraging attention to detail and interpersonal skills to deliver exceptional projects.
Responsibilities
- General Work: Collaborate with other Design Managers, Finance, Human Resources, and Office Directors; participate in office meetings; develop strategies for Best Practice integration, client satisfaction, and cross-studio integration; engage in community involvement and support sustainability initiatives.
- Leadership: Provide leadership to project teams and clients; communicate project objectives, contract scope, terms, and schedule; enable team members to reach their potential and maintain a positive environment; demonstrate effective communication skills.
- Projects: Manage scheduling, budgets, staffing, and project set-up; monitor budgets and profitability targets; oversee billing and fee management; handle accounts receivable, discretionary expenses, and productivity projections.
- Client Engagement: Implement client projects; grow business for base building and interiors projects; prepare project proposals and negotiate contracts and fees.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field.
- 15+ years of related project management experience on a range of design projects, including hospitality.
- Professional license or certification preferred.
- Experience negotiating project scope, fees, managing project financial performance, and ensuring fiscal responsibility for projects.
- Experience with the full project lifecycle, from inception to post-occupancy.
- Knowledge of building codes, standards, and building structures.
- Basic technical understanding of architectural design, interior and furniture design.
- Experience with project management software, such as MS Project.
- Knowledge in sustainable design principles.
- Previous experience in sustainable design projects preferred.
Qualifications

The position offers a competitive base salary ranging from $110,000 to $130,000, plus bonuses and benefits. Pay
The base salary is estimated between $110,000 - $130,000, contingent on relevant experience.
