About the role

Brown and Caldwell (BC), a national environmental engineering and consulting firm, seeks a Design Manager to lead design project delivery for industrial water and wastewater clients nationwide. The role focuses on planning and executing projects, coordinating with project managers, and managing design resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership within the team.
  • Lead the design process and ensure high-quality outputs.
  • Cook up design teams to support project goals.
  • Aid the Project Manager (PM) in developing and implementing design scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Manage design resources to ensure efficient utilization.
  • Coordinate the creation, submission, and revision of design deliverables to meet project demands.
  • Oversee design quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) management.
  • Manage design deliverables in line with project requirements.
  • Flexibly adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
  • Mentor less experienced team members.

Experience

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of professional or relevant experience, with 2 to 3 years of experience required in design management.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer required.

Preferred Experience

  • 7+ years in detailed engineering design.
  • 3+ years of Design Management experience on multi-disciplinary design projects.
  • Hands-on understanding of multidisciplinary design.
  • Experience working on private sector water, wastewater or infrastructure design.
  • Experience in detail process mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment processes including, but not limited to membrane filtration, aerobic/anaerobic biological systems, biosolids handling, chemical precipitation, liquid storage and pumping systems.
  • Decisiveness (the ability to take input and make a decision in a timely manner).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills (comfort dealing directly with clients).

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture or related professional experience is required.

Pay

The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
