Design Manager (Water / Wastewater)
About the role
We're seeking a driven and experienced Water & Wastewater Process Design Manager to join our Engineering Design Organization. This role involves coordinating technical teams across multiple disciplines, ensuring projects meet client needs and comply with regulations. Key responsibilities include executing the technical scope of projects, developing work plans, and overseeing QA/QC and client review processes.
Responsibilities
- Uncover emerging issues or needs, identifying potential causes, barriers, and key stakeholders, as well as related issues.
- Create multistakeholder solutions that boost creativity, innovation, and collaboration across business units.
- Design engineering solutions and validate them to ensure work meets organizational and regulatory standards.
- Analyze information, draft engineering standards and specifications, and evaluate their effectiveness within the engineering discipline.
- Develop policies and processes, create best practices, set up case studies, and deliver internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Maintain performance against health, safety, and environment (HSE) KPIs and patterns of behavior within the area of responsibility.
- Discuss and recommend more complex or innovative technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/application software and supporting infrastructure.
- Lead and oversee the provision of professional supervision to support practitioner development and embed reflective practice.
- Conduct complex feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective and document findings for cost-benefit analysis.
- Manage a portfolio of projects while reporting to senior colleagues.
- Manage important client relationships with guidance from senior colleagues.
Requirements
Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, a Professional Engineering License, or the ability to obtain one. At least 7 years of technical, administrative, and project experience, specifically in municipal/industrial water and wastewater treatment plants, facilities, or buildings, is required. Knowledge of scheduling software and engineering and capital cost estimating techniques is preferred. Process modeling such as bio-win is a plus.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field, professional engineering license, and at least 7 years of relevant experience. Knowledge of engineering standards specification, feasibility studies, and project management is necessary. Experience in process modeling and technical developments recommendation is preferred.
Skills
Key skills include strong leadership, project management, technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines. Proficiency in scheduling software and engineering estimating techniques is beneficial. Process modeling such as bio-win is a plus.
