- Manage and integrate all aspects of technical planning, scope development, change management, positioning, programming, design, and engineering services during the construction phases of new build and large retrofit semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
- Serve as a key interface between the client, A&E firms, design builders, construction teams, engineering consultants, and internal project stakeholders to ensure design intent, constructability, schedule, cost, and operational requirements are aligned.
- Cook up design deliverables across architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, process utility, cleanroom, life safety, and facility infrastructure disciplines.
- Proactively seek out and coordinate technical and business information from customers, stakeholders, A&E partners, design builders, contractors, and engineering teams. Translate this information into clear scopes of work used to establish baseline program cost, schedule, and execution requirements.
- Lead effective scope change management to support highly dynamic manufacturing technology requirements, facility modifications, and production volume changes.
- Drive the development of design deliverables that support all aspects of construction. Develop and implement innovative engineering and design methodologies that support aggressive program and construction schedules.
- Develop RFPs for external consultants, A&E firms, design builders, and other contract partners required to produce engineering and design deliverables.
- Manage external design and engineering resources, including A&E personnel, design builder teams, specialty consultants, and contract workforce supporting the development of required engineering and design deliverables.
- Review design packages for completeness, constructability, coordination, technical accuracy, and alignment with project scope, client standards, construction sequencing, and operational needs.
- Facilitate design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, constructability reviews, value engineering discussions, and issue resolution sessions with stakeholders and external design partners.
- Effectively interact with client engineering organizations to influence design standards, construction specifications, and operations requirements that enable construction teams to meet program success metrics.
- Perform conceptual engineering analysis for multiple scenarios, including high level schedule and budget development, to help customers and stakeholders make critical business decisions based on time, cost, and technical constraints.
- Support coordination between base build, tenant improvement, tool install, facilities, and manufacturing support scopes where applicable.
- Develop and implement effective safety by design practices across all aspects of the client’s business and project execution model.
Requirements
- Proven track record managing engineering and design for large, complex technical facilities and equipment installation construction projects in high tech industries, preferably semiconductor.
- Direct experience supporting large semiconductor fab, cleanroom, advanced manufacturing, or owner operated high tech manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.
- Experience working directly with A&E firms, design builders, EPCM partners, engineering consultants, construction managers, and trade contractors.
- Strong technical expertise in engineering with the ability to provide strategic and tactical direction to large engineering and design teams, including direct, matrixed, and external partner resources.
- Ability to manage design scope across multiple disciplines, including architectural, CSA, MEP, process utilities, cleanroom systems, and facility infrastructure.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical engineering and design information to a wide range of stakeholders, including manufacturing customers, project managers, construction managers, design partners, contractors, and client engineering organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholder management, resolve competing priorities, and drive alignment across complex project organizations.
- Proven track record developing and implementing breakthrough methods that improve the overall effectiveness of project organizations.
- Strong understanding of design package development, RFP support, design review cycles, constructability, change management, and construction phase engineering support.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or commensurate experience preferred.
- 10 plus years of experience in project engineering, design management, project management, or construction management.
- 5 plus years of people leadership, team coordination, or matrixed management experience.
