Job Responsibilities
- Cook up with Sales and Construction Operations Manager to review scope sheet, validate schedule and design requirements
- Design projects according to pipe on job and schedule requirements
- Assign projects to the right design team members
- Ensure all necessary plans and CAD files are received and given to the assigned designer
- Host pre-design meetings with the designer, Sales, and Construction Operations Manager
- Communicate and report on project status to the design team, customers, and management
- Lead, train, mentor, and coach the design team
- Support all customers and personnel with responsive, concise, accurate, and professional responses, ensuring timely follow-up on customer concerns and issues
- Participate in turn over meetings, design meetings, post-job meetings, and weekly department meetings
- Attend inspections as a licensed representative, as needed
- Carry out site surveys and instruct team members on proper site survey processes
- Ensure adherence to safety procedures and equipment usage
- Conduct quality checks on drawings through head layout, pipe layout, and pipe size review meetings with the designer, Sales, and Construction Operations Manager
- Perform field checks and site visits as needed
- Oversee subcontractor’s work and ensure deadlines are met
- Manage the workload of the design team and secure branch office/subcontract support as required
- Build relationships with customers, Sales, and Operations teams
- Review and approve all drawings before submission
- Track rejection comments and ensure designers provide final listings and complete foreman prints before the pipe on job date
- Be aware of local codes and AHJ requirements within local jurisdictions
- Manage commitment dates to ensure they are met; communicate to relevant team members if a commitment date is at risk of being missed
- Aid in recruitment and interviewing of potential design candidates
- Ensure designers’ timesheets are accurate and approved
- Monitor project changes during the design phase and notify the Operations team about their impacts
- Aid in maintaining commitment dates, as required
- Recommend improvements in project management procedures and overall company business practices
- Handle other duties as assigned
Knowledge
- High school diploma or GED
- NICET Level III in Water-Based Systems or RME-G
Work Experience
- 10+ years of experience in Fire Sprinkler Systems design
Skills And Competencies
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel
- Proficient in creating PDFs
- Valid state driver’s license and good driving record
- Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, and HydraCAD or equivalent design software
- Hydraulic calculations knowledge and understanding
- Capable of supporting and mentoring team members
- Proficient in interpreting and applying applicable local AHJ as well as NFPA standards and building codes
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction documents
- Able to manage a team
- Able to work on a construction job site
Physical Requirements
- 75% Office Setting: sitting, some bending, some lifting, walking, and viewing
- 25% Driving: frequent visits for team training
