Design Engineering Manager

About the role

A growing thin-gauge medical-device packaging thermoformer is looking for a Design Engineering Leader. This is a “working manager” role that combines hands-on design of new parts with leadership of a small team of Design Engineers. The team operates as a nimble, flat, collaborative business unit within a larger organization, offering both autonomy and the resources of the parent company.

The position is not a desk job; you will engage directly with customers for intake conversations, part reviews, and trial runs; collaborate cross-functionally with tooling, engineering, and manufacturing teams; and spend time on the production floor to ensure manufacturability.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a small team of Design Engineers
• Design new thermoformed packaging for medical devices
• Conduct customer intake conversations, part reviews, and trial runs
• Collaborate with tooling, engineering, and manufacturing teams
• Ensure manufacturability through hands-on floor work

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred in a technical field
• At least 5 years of thermoformed packaging design experience
• At least 5 years of experience in a highly regulated environment (pharma or medical device)
• Proven history of leading a team
• Proven ability to communicate effectively across internal and external teams
