About the role

This role supports the planning, design, and development of an advanced semiconductor research fabrication facility. You will translate rapidly evolving concepts into practical 2D and 3D designs, including factory layouts, equipment installation plans, utility routing, and semiconductor tool-hookup packages. The position focuses initially on a research fab located on a large manufacturing campus in Central Texas, with strong potential to expand into a larger, multi-year fabrication facility program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual and detailed 2D and 3D layouts for semiconductor fabrication equipment, facility infrastructure, and utility systems.
  • Convert rough ideas and rapidly changing requirements into concept-level models and drawings for review with technical leaders and executives.
  • Progress designs from early concepts through higher-fidelity engineering packages, bills of materials, and construction-ready documentation.
  • Develop and coordinate semiconductor tool-hookup packages from the facility point of feed to the equipment point of connection.
  • Model and route multiple utility systems within tight spatial constraints, including specialty process gases, general nitrogen, clean dry air, process vacuum, process cooling water, closed-loop chillers and heat-exchanger loops, electrical power and equipment interconnects, and waste-management systems.
  • Perform equipment space planning, routing studies, interference reviews, and clash detection to ensure constructible and maintainable designs.
  • Import, export, and coordinate models across multiple CAD platforms and levels of design fidelity.
  • Identify and select appropriate software tools and modeling approaches for each stage of the design process.
  • Account for design constraints such as piping bend radius, particulate-control requirements, equipment access, installation clearances, and high-purity system requirements.
  • Coordinate design output with facility, procurement, construction, and contractor-management teams responsible for project execution.
  • Provide frequent progress updates and demonstrate measurable design output in a fast-moving project environment.
  • Adapt to changing priorities, compressed schedules, and evolving project scope while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Support designs through installation, construction, or commissioning as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively in a highly technical, cross-functional environment and contribute to a culture of rapid learning and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: semiconductor fabrication facilities, semiconductor equipment or tool hookup, factory or plant layout, facilities or infrastructure design, aerospace manufacturing or launch infrastructure, high-pressure fluid or commodity-delivery systems, or complex industrial plant design.
  • Professional experience with at least one major CAD platform, such as Siemens NX, AutoCAD, Revit, or Navisworks.
  • Strong 3D modeling capabilities with the ability to develop coordinated designs within highly constrained spaces.
  • Experience designing or coordinating complex piping, fluid, mechanical, utility, or electrical systems.
  • Ability to take incomplete or conceptual requests and quickly develop usable engineering models or drawings.
  • Ability to work independently, make reasonable design assumptions, and identify missing technical information.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage changing requirements while maintaining speed and quality of output.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort providing frequent project updates in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Previous experience supporting semiconductor fab design, startup, expansion, or equipment installation.
  • Experience developing semiconductor tool-hookup packages.
  • Working knowledge of several CAD platforms and the ability to transfer models between 2D and 3D environments.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment requirements, facility connection points, and utility matrices.
  • Experience with high-purity piping, high-purity gas or chemical delivery systems, and waste-management systems.
  • General understanding of cleanroom construction, including raised metal flooring, ceiling systems, fan filter units, equipment clearances, and facility routing constraints.
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced engineering environment where priorities and scope change frequently.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Facilities, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent directly relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in target industries such as semiconductor, aerospace and defense, or oil and gas.
  • Experience supporting designs through installation, construction, or commissioning.
  • Ability to identify the appropriate software and modeling approach for each stage of the design process.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work through ambiguity with limited oversight.
  • Comfort collaborating with facility, procurement, construction, and contractor-management teams.
  • Interest in contributing to a long-term, multi-year fabrication facility program as the scope expands.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $80.00/hr.
