Job Description Design Engineer III Location: Phoenix, AZ Compensation Range: $87,000 - $108,000 depending on relevant experience and qualifications Western Architectural Openings (WAO), based in Phoenix, AZ, is a leading manufacturer of luxury fenestration products in the United States. As a Design Engineer III, you will develop innovative solutions to support new products or revisions to existing products. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Work safely by following company policy and using appropriate PPE requirements where necessaryDevelop innovative and manufacturing friendly design solutions to support new and existing productsGenerate 2D and 3D CAD models to align with company drafting standardsDesign and create prototypes to demonstrate and verify fit, form, and functionLead design reviews to ensure cross functional collaboration and successCreate and execute test plans to validate design conceptsDocument and peer review test results using test report templatesDevelop and/or modify bill of materials per design intent and certification testingCreate product specifications and instructions to align with customer requirements & supplier’s capabilitiesCommunicate and coordinate with cross functional partners (Product managers, supply chain, suppliers, process development, quality, sales, marketing, finance, & IT) to implement product design solutionsLead & manage engineering projects and timelines through project planning and timely execution of tasksLead the technical components of multiple projects while communicating project scope and status updates to leadership through written communication, presentations, and the new product development methodologyManage multiple projects concurrently while adhering to budget, schedule, and scope restraintsTake projects from concept, through prototyping, testing, certification, and production readiness Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Strong time management, organizational skills, and ability to set priorities for multiple tasksInternal & external Customer focusStrong communication skills in both written and verbalSelf-starter and ability to work independently Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited course of study in engineering (or other four-year technical discipline) and/or relevant 2-year associates degree in combination with 10 years of experience4+ years’ experience in Design EngineeringFluent in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)Willingness to travel depending on the needs of the business Job Specific Requirements Practical knowledge of process improvement & development tools: 8D, Six Sigma, DMAIC, Stage Gate, etc.Experience with predicting potential failure modes (design FMEA, Fishbone, 5-Whys, etc.)Proficient using 2D and 3D computer aided drafting/design software, SolidWorks 3D experience preferredFinite Element Analysis FEA experience preferred Experience using machine tools preferred (mill, lathe, etc.) About MITER Brands MITER Brands is one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of residential windows and doors, serving both the new construction and replacement markets.
