Position Summary

The successful candidate analyzes, researches and designs components or a system of components, new products or to improve existing products while reducing cost, enhancing performance or facilitating manufacturing operations. Designs products or systems of moderate scope and complexity for assigned programs using a variety of engineering principles from mechanical, materials science or other engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creates designs by analyzing product specifications, performance requirements, and existing manufacturing capabilities.
  • Performs moderately complex design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of components, subsystems, and systems by applying engineering principles and established analytical tools.
  • Develops data and makes preliminary sketches, notes, and documentation in response to customer proposal requests.
  • Reviews drawings and assembly models to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function and conformity to standards, procedures and specifications.
  • Identifies design errors, omissions and other deficiencies and recommends revisions and improvements to engineers or other designers.
  • Conducts analyses and tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials or processes.
  • Completes required documentation by applying engineering principles and company standards.
  • Generates reports, procedures or change proposals.
  • Lead and support field investigations.
  • Collaborate with AA TECH aftermarket partners on: Receiving, logging, documenting data and closing customer information gaps on returned fielded hardware.
  • Fully define customer request and reason for return.
  • Clarify any intended workscope and desired outcomes.
  • Document and characterize as received fielded hardware condition.
  • Define, plan and execute required sequence of tests and inspections.
  • Tabulate and summarize data and test and inspection results.
  • Direct, Coordinate, and Execute: Investigative plan (ie, cut up, NDT, visual inspection, chemical / material analysis).
  • Review, document and summarize conclusions.
  • Establish with team and appropriate stakeholders any relevant technical course of actions required to address findings.
  • Support Design for Maintainability objectives.
  • Support development of new aftermarket overhaul and repair processes.
  • Support Leading Indicator Program objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related engineering field.
  • 2-5 years prior industry experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Society of Manufacturing Engineering (SME) or Mechanical Engineering (ASME) certification desired.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • General knowledge of aerospace industry or similar industry products and legal and regulatory requirements related to manufacturing environments.
