Design Engineer
About the role
Design is not what it looks like. Design is how it works. Wispr Flow is one of the most loved products—among Silicon Valley techies and the average person. As a layer on top of every app, we have a major responsibility to make it feel delightful and never break their flow. This constraint forced us to invent new interaction paradigms: the floating Flow Bar on desktop, the Flow Bubble on Android, and the voice keyboard on iOS. Without design engineers as influential voices in the company, none of this would be possible.
You’ll work closely with product engineers, designers, and our founders, Tanay and Sahaj. A big reason Flow feels the way it does is that they care about getting the smallest details perfect.
Challenges ahead include interaction patterns for upcoming products across devices, AI-first design systems to maintain velocity as we lean into agentic coding, and foundational work on how the next generation of software looks and feels.
Responsibilities
- Design interfaces for voice-first interactions across devices.
- Have a key voice in the direction of the product roadmap.
- Build new interaction paradigms on top of frontier models for next-gen HCI.
- Build systems to enable the whole company to ship better UI/UX.
- Talk to customers, observe them, and obsessively improve the product.
Qualifications
- You have strong opinions about what makes an interface feel right and the ability to defend them.
- You notice if a single pixel is off on the screen.
- You would be embarrassed to ship a non-seamless UI.
- You look at existing user interfaces and think, “Ahh, I wish I could just make this better.”
- You aim to deeply understand users, their emotions, and love to craft their journey.
