About the role
The Design Engineer will play a crucial part in Wenger Corporation's mission to provide exceptional customer experiences through innovative product development, improvement, and cost reduction projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed customer requirements and corresponding product functional requirements in collaboration with the Product Manager
- Lead multifunctional project teams to achieve project goals
- Conceptualize and develop new product ideas, product improvements, and cost reduction strategies
- Conduct engineering analysis, including strength calculations, design layout, fits and tolerances, and CAD modeling
- Oversee accelerated product life cycle tests and evaluate field testing and potential misuse of products
- Create complete, documented product and engineering specifications, working closely with cross-functional teams
- Support new manufacturing processes and provide technical writing support for manuals and instructions
- Coordinate and execute product development tasks, including design reviews, validation testing, failure modes effects analysis, design for manufacturability, prototype development, and preproduction support
- Provide technical leadership for standard product customization efforts and prepare recommendations for product changes
- Support field testing at beta sites
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive product or design engineering experience
- Preferred SolidWorks experience
- Proficiency with finite element analysis (FEA) software and stress calculations
- Ability to conceptualize, formulate design possibilities, and coordinate development by the project team under time and financial constraints
- Commitment to effective project coordination and evaluation, with recommendations for changes to improve overall results
