Toyoda Gosei North America (headquartered in Troy, MI) is seeking a Product Engineer within the Functional Components Engineering department. This role supports product development from initial concept through start of production (SOP) for the Functional Components Engineering group across Toyoda Gosei (TG) North America Corporation (TGNA) and TGNA Manufacturing Companies (AMCs).

Responsibilities

  • Create APQP and engineering documents.
  • Support design development from initial concept through SOP.
  • Attend customer build events and root cause issues.
  • Negotiate with customers on product design, styling, and engineering requirements while ensuring manufacturability and profitability.
  • Provide design proposals for automotive fluid parts or other components utilizing 2D & 3D design tools.
  • Complete benchmarking examinations of competitors’ components and emerging technology.
  • Provide technical reports, open items list, and presentation packages to customers and internal departments.
  • Improve designs and define new design guidelines to enhance quality and productivity.
  • Create and maintain records of product development as required by the quality system.
  • Work with customers and internal groups to resolve component functional problems.
  • Develop drawings as necessary and participate in Design FMEA.
  • Continue improving the product development process to provide a higher level of service to customers.
  • Demonstrate basic project management expertise.
  • Specify precise new product functional requirements; design, test, and integrate components to produce final designs; and evaluate the design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety.
  • Design, develop, execute, and evaluate fitness-for-use testing, product specifications, and process validation plans; create and review material part specifications and bills of materials.
  • Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability.
  • Utilize CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
  • Drive optimization by actively engaging in continuous improvement efforts (kaizen).
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent years of experience.
  • 1 to 4 years of experience in Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of general design and engineering release activities.
  • Strong understanding of various phases of APQP from initial concept through post-production is preferred.
  • Familiarity with automotive standards, concepts, and practices is preferred.
  • Previous experience with plastic injection molded commodities is preferred.

Skills

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suites 2016 or newer.
  • Previous experience with CATIA V5 or NX/UG is required.
  • Previous experience in Domestic or Japanese OEM Customer Portals is preferred.
  • Effective verbal, non-verbal, negotiation, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to sustain a high degree of professionalism in interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and project scheduling skills.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
