About the role
Severfield's Commercial & Industrial division designs, fabricates and constructs structural steelwork for a variety of different sectors including commercial offices, stadia & leisure, industrial & distribution, data centres, retail and health and education. The division has manufacturing sites in three locations: Dalton, Lostock, and Enniskillen. Each has full-service capabilities and modern manufacturing processes enabling us to provide a high-quality product to a variety of different sectors. Each of our sites has its own strong reputation in the market and between them cover a wider geographical area, including Europe. They continue to set the bar high in their highly complex market!
Responsibilities
- Deliver engineering calculations and solutions as part of a multidisciplinary design team.
- Undertake secondments to other departments (e.g. site, estimating, contract management) to support learning and project delivery.
- Provide structural design services, including member design, connection design, and temporary works.
- Support tender-stage design development and produce structural input where required.
- Assist in the development and standardisation of structural detailing aligned with the company's manufacturing and erection methodologies.
- Liaise with clients, architects, and structural consultants to develop viable structural schemes for awarded contracts.
- Collaborate effectively with internal departments, including contracts, manufacturing, and site erection teams.
- Clearly communicate engineering solutions using appropriate drafting techniques and maintain high standards of documentation and calculation accuracy.
- Guide and support Graduate Design Engineers in their professional development.
- Assume responsibility for running assigned projects and stepping into leadership duties within the design team when required.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in a structural steel design environment.
- Degree in Structural Engineering required; Master's preferred but not essential.
- Chartered or working toward professional engineering accreditation (e.g., MIStructE, MIEI, MICE).
- Demonstrated competence in producing design solutions from concept through to construction.
- Experience will be considered alongside ability and attitude when appointing to this role.
