Design Engineer

About The Role

We're seeking a Design Engineer who is passionate about building a product that our users love. You'll work closely with the founder and users to design and implement new concepts and ideas. You'll own how the product looks and feels, from the design system through to the shipped interface, and be responsible for delivering the best value to our users. Your decisions will shape the product and its future.

What you'll do

• Build and ship the interface our users live in, owning it from first sketch to production
• Lead design innovation, with a focus on how complex modeling work should look and feel
• Own the design system, our brand, and the marketing site, so everything we put out feels like one product
• Shape the product and its future, to lead the new era of predictive modeling
• Elevate the team, by bringing your own ideas and expertise to the table
• Partner with the founder, to build a product that our users love

What we're looking for

• Experience designing and building customer-facing interfaces at a software company with a high engineering bar
• Strong frontend skills, with deep command of Typescript, React, and CSS
• Track record of owning a design system that other engineers built on
• An eye for motion, typography, and the details most people never notice
• Cares deeply about craft, and about knowing when something is done
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment
• High level of autonomy and ownership
• Thrives in a remote, asynchronous environment with a lean, high-output team
• Domain knowledge in predictive modeling and data science

You'll love this if

• You want to own how a product looks and feels, and to build it yourself rather than hand it off
• You are passionate about predictive modeling and hold high opinions about how software should be designed and built
• You want to work with a world-class team that values your input and your ideas

You'll hate this if

• We work a lot and we work hard
• We think through problems from first principles and are comfortable with ambiguity
• We are not afraid to take the lead on complex problems & shape the solution, not just follow instructions

Our tech

• Rust, Postgres, AWS on the backend
• Typescript and React on the frontend
• GraphQL API, with SDKs in several languages
• Claude Code / Codex
• Github, Linear, Slack

How we hire

• Email the founder at ryan@predictionlab.ai with anything that shows how you think
• A 45-minute conversation with Ryan
• A take-home assignment on a domain related problem
• A closing conversation

What we offer

• Competitive salary and equity
• Full remote flexibility and asynchronous work culture
• 100% employer-paid health insurance, including dental and vision coverage
• Unlimited paid time off
• A high degree of ownership, autonomy, and the opportunity to help build a growing company
• The ability to make a meaningful impact while working alongside a passionate, high-performing team
• Exposure to the challenges and opportunities of a fast-paced startup environment
