Design Engineer

About the role

We’re hiring a design engineer to help shape and build interactive experiences across Parallel’s website, product, and special projects.

About Parallel Design: We design for a web used by both people and agents, grounding our work in real code, data, and evidence. We draw from the history of the web, computing, and publishing to help explain what comes next, while leaving room for experiments, tangents, and things made simply because they’re good.

Responsibilities

• Refine everyday interactions and motion
• Create visual essays, data visualizations, launch pages, and minisites
• Work alongside designers, marketers, and engineers from the first rough idea through to production
• Prototype possible directions
• Contribute to the core website
• Get the details right in the browser
• Build reusable components and patterns that help us ship the next project faster

Requirements

• Design engineer or frontend engineer with strong design instincts
• Care for typography, layout, and the timing and feel of an interaction
• Experience shipping working websites and ability to point to the decisions made along the way
• Comfortable with modern frontend and animation libraries, knowing when to build something custom
• Able to move quickly in prototypes and carry that work through to a responsive, accessible, performant site
