About the role

This position will support Engineering by performing Unigraphics design of new support tooling and fixtures related to NPI and/or process improvement initiatives of the Production product line. The primary focus will be on wax mold design, wax support tooling design, and core support tooling design to achieve optimal casting yield results. The role involves working closely with the Tooling Process Owner/Technical Program Director as well as Product & Process Engineering to improve yield for specific components, with an emphasis on analyzing casting results of existing tool designs and New Product Introduction of Wax Assembly, Wax Die Support Tooling, and Fixture Design.

Responsibilities

  • Tool design for wax pattern and core dies, gating dies, and support tooling and fixtures, with a primary focus on wax and core tooling.
  • Communicate regularly with Tooling Process Owner/Technical Director regarding design concepts and improvements.
  • Evaluate dimensional data using 3D scanning software to improve tool design related to casting dimensional and quality results.
  • Utilize basic engineering skills to approach problems analytically and derive sound conclusions.
  • Communicate with Product/Process Engineering regarding design concepts of tooling.
  • Assist Product Engineer in analyzing core and casting dimensional results to improve yields.
  • Assist Process Engineer in analyzing process modeling results and modifying mold designs/support tooling.
  • Work closely with Tool Room personnel.
  • Design ancillary tooling for the wax, core, and casting process using Unigraphics.
  • Utilize casting results to implement improvements via new or reworked tooling.
  • Communicate and interface with tool vendors and core suppliers.
  • Support design for manufacturing and automation production readiness related to Product/Process Engineering.
  • Perform other miscellaneous assignments as directed by supervision.
  • Assist in the implementation of Howmet Aerospace’s Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) value and policy statement.
  • Comply with all department, facility, Corporate, and Regulatory EH&S regulations.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Report all job-related illness and injuries.
  • Report all Safety, Health & Environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Attend all EH&S training.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 years of design experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic computer skills: Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint.
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items; employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tooling design and/or CAD experience using Unigraphics (strongly preferred).
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • CAM programming for CNC and Wire EDM manufacturing.
  • Highly detailed and organized.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with others.
  • Self-motivated.
