Design Engineer

About the role

Join our Growth pod as a Design Engineer to build marketing experiences that make nonprofits fall in love with Givebutter at first click. Partner with our design team to turn prototypes into production-grade motion, interaction, and web craft.

Responsibilities

• Build acquisition and marketing surfaces in our Astro-based site, free from Webflow constraints to create faster, more interactive, more personalized, and more fun experiences.
• Translate Figma, prototypes, and AI-generated explorations into production-grade motion and interaction, owning the motion and interaction primitives that evolve across marketing and eventually product.
• Create data-driven marketing pages that bring real campaign and cause data to life, such as per-cause hubs, per-campaign stories, and per-vertical landing pages, with polished frontend experiences.
• Wire our marketing surfaces into analytics and feature-flag plumbing, using PostHog and LaunchDarkly, and extend these patterns into how we ship marketing.
• Collaborate with our 3rd-party Webflow team on cross-cutting concerns like analytics and tracking, ensuring seamless integration across our web presence.
• Partner with Growth, Marketing, Design, and the product engineering team as a translator between different groups, managing integrations and technical decisions.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional frontend engineering experience building production web applications or marketing sites.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Understanding of semantic HTML, modern CSS, responsive layouts, and browser rendering behavior.
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as Astro, React, Next.js, or Svelte.
• Experience implementing advanced frontend animation systems using tools like GSAP, Framer Motion, View Transitions API, Lottie, or scroll-linked animations.
• Experience integrating analytics, A/B testing, or feature flagging systems (e.g. PostHog, LaunchDarkly, Segment, Amplitude).
• Experience building reusable frontend components and interaction systems with maintainable architecture.
• Strong understanding of Core Web Vitals, frontend performance optimization, and accessibility standards (WCAG, reduced motion support, semantic structure).
• Comfortable reviewing, debugging, and refining AI-assisted code output before production deployment.
• Experience using Git-based workflows and collaborating within engineering teams using pull requests and code reviews.

Nice to have

• Enough Webflow comfort to collaborate with a 3rd-party team on tracking, analytics, and technical decisions (this is not a content-management role).
• Experience with data-driven page generation (CMS-driven templates, content collections, dynamic routing, and programmatic patterns that prioritize quality over volume).
• Experience maintaining design systems or motion primitive libraries.
• Experience with Cloudflare Workers / edge routing / SEO / Core Web Vital.
• Background in a designer-first environment (agency, studio, or former designer).
• A personal site with personality (we will absolutely click through).
• Experimentation and product-analytics experience: running A/B tests, instrumenting work in tools like PostHog, Amplitude, or Mixpanel, and helping define good infrastructure.
• Nonprofit or mission-driven experience.
