Qualifications
- 8–10+ years of experience in textile design
- Expert knowledge of product development and manufacturing processes and the interior design world
- Proficiency in design and project management software, including Adobe Creative Suite, AVA, and SmartSheets
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining exceptional quality standards
- Exceptional eye for and sensibility toward color
- Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to inspire and guide creative teams in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
- Strong creative judgment and attention to detail, with the ability to oversee projects from concept through execution while maintaining the highest level of design excellence
- Desire to stay on top of design trends
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the creative vision and development of Schumacher Classic collections across fabric, wallcoverings, and trims
- Drive creative concept development, color direction, pattern design, and material innovation
- Create original design ideas
- Reinterpret archival and heritage designs into elevated, commercially relevant collections for today’s market
- Collaborate closely with portfolio, merchandising, sales, and marketing teams
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors to ensure successful execution of collections
- Possess a strong understanding of conventional printing techniques and complex woven constructions
- Oversee all technical and creative aspects of product development, including CAD development, strike-offs, color approvals, and CFA
- Lead, mentor, and develop the design team, fostering creativity, collaboration, and professional growth
- Partner with senior leadership to define long-term creative strategy and product direction
- Develop collections that balance artistic integrity, commercial viability, and brand vision
- Present concepts and collection narratives to the executive team
- Travel overseas to work onsite with vendors
