Design Build Manager
About the role
MasTec Civil is seeking a Design Build Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in alternative delivery of civil construction projects, particularly in transportation. This role is hybrid, with a preference for being based in one of our offices in Tampa, FL, Jacksonville, FL, Orlando, FL, Miami, FL, Medley, FL, Charlotte, NC, or Nashville, TN.
Responsibilities
Project/Pursuit Management: Leads and assists in the development of design-build proposals. Manages the design-build process from conception through the preliminary design and bid submission. Develops project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
Team Leadership: Supervises and mentors engineers and construction personnel. Facilitates communication between design and construction teams to ensure alignment during the pursuit phase. Assembles and leads high-performing multi-discipline pursuit teams, including engineers, designers, and subconsultants. Fosters a collaborative and productive work environment. Provides mentorship and guidance to team members.
Design Oversight: Reviews and approves design plans to ensure they meet project specifications and regulatory requirements. Collaborates with architects and engineers to refine designs based on constructability and cost-effectiveness. Ensures designs are constructable and cost-effective and meet client requirements.
Stakeholder Communication: Builds and maintains strong relationships as the primary contact for design partners and owner agencies during pursuits. Provides regular updates to stakeholders on pursuit status, challenges, and solutions. Manages client expectations and ensures client satisfaction during the pursuit phase.
Compliance and Safety: Ensures all bids/proposals comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and safety standards. Implements safety protocols and promotes a culture of safety.
Budget Management: Prepares and manages pursuit budgets, tracking designer and other third-party expenses and variances.
Risk Management: Identifies potential risks and develops mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions. Addresses and resolves any issues that arise during the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in civil construction management, with a focus on design-build projects or pursuits.
Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
Proficient in project management software and tools.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
