Responsibilities

Congratulations on your interest in the Desert Tortoise Field Biologist role at ERM. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting protocol-level desert tortoise surveys.
  • Electronic data collection using Field Maps and Survey123 applications.
  • Working as a member of a large team of biologists.
  • Daily reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should possess:

  • A BS degree in a natural science field of study preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 seasons of Desert Tortoise field biologist experience.
  • Desert Tortoise Council Training is a plus.
  • A minimum of three plus years of projects that surveyed, monitored and mitigated for target species; one year of experience conducting presence/absence surveys for desert tortoise is required.
  • Familiarity with desert tortoise survey protocols.
  • Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
  • Must be able to walk approximately 5km per day in desert conditions.
  • Working knowledge of sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills (e.g., NWI, USGS, aerial photography).
  • A strong attention to detail in documentation of work.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • The ability to work schedule may include weekends and/or over-time.
  • A desire to work in the field for extended periods and maintain a positive attitude.
  • A willingness and ability to travel as needed.
  • Independent and effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Pay

We anticipate the annual base pay for the Desert Tortoise Field Biologist position to be $74,825–$96,901, $35.97/hr – $46.58/hr USD, limited-term, non-exempt. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above.
