Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Affords assistance in rigging up and down, aligning the well service rig with the well.
• Carries out servicing operations on the well.
• Handles all elevated work associated with rigging up/down (including removing horse head from pumping unit).
• Assists in transferring rods and tubing between vertical racks and the elevator.
• Operates tubing elevators for maintaining standing tubing in the derrick.
• Assists in moving tubing between the rack and the work floor.
• Utilizes hydraulic jacks, handles pads/boards, and attaches guy wires to anchors.
• Supports in laying down rods.
• Reports any safety hazards, accidents, or maintenance issues to the Tool Pusher/Field Supervisor.
• Fulfills duties that comply with Axis policies and procedures and adhere to safety programs.
• Might be required to work on floors or operate the rig as needed.
• Might drive the crew truck as needed (requires an active state-issued driver license).
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

  Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Valid state-issued driver license with an acceptable MVR; CDL Class A or B preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of Derrick hand experience required; at least two (2) years of workover rig floor experience required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work a flexible, rotational schedule and travel as job requirements dictate.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Strength to lift heavy equipment up to 75 lbs.
  • Physical capability to access work environments via ladders at heights of 50 ft. or more.
  • Long periods of standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and similar activities may be necessary.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, enter areas using ladders or other access devices; ability to bend, stoop, twist, stand, squat, crawl, and walk.

  • Reliable telephone (cell phone) communication and transportation.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug/alcohol and job-relevant screens.

    Additional Information

    The Derrick Hand position has preference given to qualified local job seekers within 60 miles of the Axis Casper, WY facility. This position reports to the assigned Tool Pusher/Field Supervisor or Rig Operator.
