Department Job Description Summary

The Medical Director is a board-certified dermatologist who provides clinical leadership for the Cutaneous Oncology and Pigmented Lesion Clinic, a multidisciplinary center focused on the early detection, diagnosis, and management of melanoma, pigmented lesions, and other cutaneous malignancies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight for the Cutaneous Oncology and Pigmented Lesion Clinic.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based clinical pathways for melanoma, atypical pigmented lesions, and other cutaneous malignancies.
  • Lead multidisciplinary care coordination and case review among Dermatology, Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pathology, Plastic Surgery, and Genetics.
  • Establish and expand advanced imaging capabilities, including: Reflectance Confocal Microscopy (RCM), Line-Field Confocal Optical Coherence Tomography (LC-OCT), Digital dermoscopy, and total-body photography.
  • Promote high-quality, patient-centered care with an emphasis on timely diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
  • Partner with Cancer Center leadership to support clinic growth, referral development, quality improvement, and community outreach.
  • Develop clinical research opportunities focused on cutaneous oncology, melanoma detection, advanced imaging technologies, and innovative models of care.
  • Support the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and other trainees in dermatology, skin cancer prevention, and cutaneous oncology.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree.
  • Board Certification in Dermatology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in melanoma, pigmented lesions, and cutaneous oncology.
  • Experience with or interest in advanced diagnostic imaging technologies, including RCM and LC-OCT.
  • Prior leadership experience in an academic medical center, multidisciplinary practice, or cancer center preferred.
