DER Interconnection Engineer (Hybrid)

About the role

We are seeking a DER Interconnection Engineer to support critical procurement initiatives and engineering projects within our Power Asset Management organization. This role is responsible for managing engineering and procurement activities supporting generation-related projects, including resource procurement, RFP/RFQ administration, technical evaluations, vendor coordination, and project execution. The ideal candidate will possess a strong engineering background, project management experience, and knowledge of power generation assets and utility operations. This individual will work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, developers, suppliers, and customers to support generation projects from planning through implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple engineering and procurement projects supporting power generation initiatives.
  • Coordinate procurement activities, including RFP/RFQ development, bid evaluations, vendor communications, and recommendation of supplier selections.
  • Support commercial evaluations, contract negotiations, and vendor management while collaborating with procurement and legal teams.
  • Process and manage distributed energy resource (DER) interconnection applications through all phases, including engineering review, design, construction, commissioning, and commercial operation.
  • Coordinate with developers, customers, and internal departments to ensure projects comply with applicable tariffs, procedures, and engineering requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules, identifying risks, schedule variances, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Support procurement efforts involving generation equipment, transmission systems, and other energy-related resources.
  • Review utility single-line diagrams and engineering documentation to support project execution.
  • Provide technical support for renewable and non-renewable generation projects connecting to the distribution system.
  • Assist with operational management of existing interconnected generation resources.
  • Prepare reports, analyze project metrics, monitor costs, and support project controls.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, customers, and project teams.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering and/or project management experience.
  • Experience managing multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, project controls, and project execution.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Preferred

  • Experience within the electric utility or power generation industry.
  • Knowledge of power generation assets, transmission systems, and energy capacity planning.
  • Experience supporting procurement activities for engineering or utility projects.
  • Experience managing RFP/RFQ processes.
  • Familiarity with contract negotiations, commercial evaluations, and supplier/vendor management.
  • Knowledge of ISO market rules and utility regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supporting distributed energy resource (DER) interconnections.
  • Experience with PowerAdvocate or similar procurement platforms.
  • Knowledge of utility tariffs, generation interconnection procedures, and engineering design documentation.
