Deputy Sheriff Trainee - Continuous Opening - $15K Signing Bonus

About the role

The Napa Valley Napa County Sheriff's Department seeks to hire a Deputy Sheriff Trainee. The position is a non-sworn, civilian training classification to be used while incumbents are attending a certified Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Police Academy.

Responsibilities

• Attend the basic Police Academy to prepare and learn the duties and responsibilities for the position of Deputy Sheriff.
• Receive intensive instruction on law enforcement procedures combined with rigorous physical fitness training.
• Be placed in the miscellaneous retirement category until successful completion of a designated police academy.
• Be sworn in as peace officers after completing academy training.
• Be appointed to the Deputy Sheriff I classification and begin a one (1) year probationary period.

Requirements

• Must have a verifiable P.O.S.T Pellet-B T-Score of 42 or higher that has been issued no earlier than one year before and must be attached with your application.
• Must be at least 20 1/2 years of age at the time of application submission.
• Must have a valid California driver's license.
• Must be able to work holidays, weekends, graveyard shifts and irregular hours.
• Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation and polygraph.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test and psychiatric evaluation.

Qualifications

• Must be able to provide proof of successful completion of a P.O.S.T. entry level law enforcement written exam with a minimum T-Score of 42 or above at time of application.
• Must have a High School diploma or G.E.D.
• Must be at least 20 1/2 years of age at the time of application.
• Must be able to work holidays, weekends, graveyard shifts and irregular hours.
• Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation and polygraph.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test and psychiatric evaluation.
