Who We Are

The mission of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement arm of the Judicial System. Our mission is to provide leadership and professional support, as required, to ensure that Court mandates are carried out in a manner which respects individual rights and freedoms. Our mission is to work cooperatively with all other law enforcement agencies within this county and throughout the Metropolitan Washington D.C. area, as well as all other branches of the Montgomery County Government. We strive to ensure that the people who live, work and visit Montgomery County are receiving the full range of law enforcement services required for a safe and orderly society.

Who We Are Looking For

The Sheriff’s Office is currently recruiting for Deputy Sheriff Candidates.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Serving civil process papers
  • Transporting prisoners and citizens
  • Returning prisoners from out of County/State
  • Maintaining custody of prisoners in a small detention setting
  • Providing prisoner and courtroom security

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: None.
  • Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.
  • License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications confirmed by OHR must take the written exam to be considered for hire. Based on the results of the written examination, applications will be rated, the highest rated applicants may be contacted for an interview.
