DEPUTY SHERIFF
About the role
This position involves performing a full range of police duties including patrol operations, criminal investigation, civil process, search and rescue, courtroom security, and detention. It is an Open Competitive / Countywide Promotional recruitment to fill current vacancies at the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. Responsibilities
- Performs patrol operations, responding to calls for service and conducting investigations.
- Investigates criminal activity, collects evidence, and prepares reports.
- Enforces laws and ordinances, issues citations, and arrests suspects.
- Assists in civil process, such as serving legal documents.
- Participates in search and rescue operations.
- Secures courtrooms and detention facilities.
- Maintains public safety and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
Requirements
- Current and valid Nevada POST Basic Category I Certificate at time of appointment or current enrollment in a Nevada POST Basic Category I Academy at time of application.
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
- Must be a United States Citizen at the time of application.
- Must meet POST requirements per NAC 289 in its entirety.
- A valid Nevada Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
- Required to maintain Basic POST Certificate as Category I Peace Officer per NRS/NAC 289 for continued employment in this classification.
- Required to complete POST continuing education requirements in accordance with NRS/NAC 289 for continued employment in this classification.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school, possession of a GED Certificate, or proof of passing a high school equivalency assessment approved by the State Board of Education or an appropriate authority in another state is required at the time of application.
Skills
Knowledge of laws, regulations, and procedures governing law enforcement activities. Ability to make sound decisions and judgments in emergency situations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding physical tasks.
